Wonderful ways to prepare fondues

I have a nostalgic chocolate fondue fountain I have never used and I need to use it for a prty tonight. I have lost the instrucitons and I need to know what kind of chocolate to buy ie…semi sweet chocolate chips verses chocolate discs…and also how to prepare it. Do I melt it first and add vegetable oil with it and how much?
