This had been something we had both been looking forward to for a long time. Having spent so much time backpacking through the developing world we were both ready for everything we had been missing and dreaming of since leaving home. I wanted buffalo wings and a hot shower, Jan just wanted to finally put away her traveling clothes and wear something impractical and cute. Once we set down in Amsterdam we were immediately impressed by how well the city ran and how clean everything was. Spending so much time in Africa we had become accustomed to disorder and poverty, seeing a modern well run western city was a complete shock. We could do what we wanted, eat what we wanted, and go where we wanted whenever we wanted to. All the specific cravings that we had longed for vanished as soon as everything was available to us. It wasn’t certain food, or movies or clothes that we missed but the immense choice available. On first setting foot in the west after being in the developing world for so long that was the difference that was most striking, the incredible amount of choices. Relish Culinary Adventures releases Winter/Spring 2008 schedule of events

Relish Culinary Adventures announces the release of its Winter/Spring 2008 schedule with events through April. Relish stands out as the only “roving” culinary program that brings together talented chefs and fabulous cuisine at a variety of captivating wine country locations to create one-of-a-kind hands-on and demonstration cooking experiences. This schedule is the first to include classes at the new Relish Culinary Center opening in March in downtown Healdsburg.

The Winter/Spring 2008 schedule contains a variety of cooking classes and events, from winter fondue party to spring brunch, all lead by an array of talented local chef-instructors, cookbook authors and restaurateurs.

Examples of events include:

    Romantic four-course dinner in the Bella Wine Cave with Sonoma County chefs Todd Muir and John Littlewood on Friday, February 8. Chefs Muir and Littlewood will lead a lively cooking demonstration before serving dinner paired with Bella zinfandel and syrah wines in the elegant wine cave.
    A social and festive Winter Fondue Party at the eco-sustainable Ridge Winery with chef Christine Piccin. Chef Piccin will demonstrate a variety of classic and modern fondues each paired with a different Ridge wine.
    Hands-on Cheesemaking Workshop with cheese distributor Sheana Davis featuring fresh cheeses such as chevre and fromage blanc.
    A variety of Cocktail Classes at Cyrus Restaurant with bar manager Scott Beattie who’s been featured in numerous publications such as Gourmet and Food and Wine magazines.
