A fondue pot good for melting caramel for caramel apples?
I know a fondue pot is designed for obviously fondue, but would it work as a caramel apple dipper?

It does not get the caramel hot enough to melt the caramel. I don’t think it would hold it at a warm enough temperature to keep is soft enough to dip in. Caramel is simply sugar and heavy cream. That’s it. It melts at a much higher temperature than say, chocolate or cheese, 2 of the most common dipping sauces for fondue.
An electric fondue pot would work. You can set it to a specific temperature, and they get very hot (up to 400 F), more than hot enough to melt caramel. Mine heats very evenly. The link is for the one I own.
A sterno or candle heated fondue pot probably wouldn’t heat evenly or hot enough.
